Pori Urundai | Murmura Ladoo | Puffed Rice Balls
Pori urundai with step by step pictures.
Pori urundai is a sweet ball made with puffed rice, jaggery, and cardamom powder. This sweet is usually made for Karthigai deepam festival, which is festival of light, on which people lit hundreds of earthern lamps on the house. When I was a kid I remember our neighbour litting many lamps on the compound wall and we use to enjoy the sight. The best part is they will share kozhukattai with us. One of it would be made with palm leaves and just love it. I want to try that but don't know where I will get that tender palm leaves.

Vella Aval Puttu| Rice Flakes with Jaggery ( Video recipe)
Aval /Rice flakes itself a healthy super good food that can be had as a snack or as breakfast. Here I have used a thick variety of red rice flakes which is even more nutritious than white flakes. This method does not require any cooking of it and can be done in no time which is the best option for after school snacks. But if you doubt the quality of the jaggery make syrup and add to it. I have made that method in the video.

Mangalore Buns | Banana poori/puri
Mangalore buns with step by step pictures and video.
Mangalore buns is nothing but banana poori which is deep fried. It is made by making a dough with mashed banana, flour and spice, which is given some resting hours. After it is rolled into small poori's and deep fried. With the addition of banana these pooris are super soft and delicious. Do give a try and i'm sure you will fall in love with it. An over-riped banana can also be used for it. An authentic recipe uses refined flour(maida) but here I have used a mix if maida and atta.

Keerai Bonda | Urad dal Bonda with Greens
Keerai Bonda with step by step pictures.
When coming for tea time snacks we always opt for vadai, bonda, murruku , etc. Deep fried snacks with a hot cup of ginger or masala chai/tea are the best combo. Nothing can beat this heaven made pair if you have not tried this do try it and I'm sure you will love it. Someday in last week Chennai had some slight showers and I was badly craving for some deep fried snacks for my tea. I bought keerai/greens and kept soem stalks to make this bonda the next day to fulfill my craving. Its so easy to make just chop the green finely and add to the bonda batter and make.Monday, January 04, 2021
Chicken momos
Chicken momos with step by step pictures.
In my momos chutney post I have mentioned about this chicken momos only. I would say the momos recipe looks somewhat similar to our south Indian kozhukattai recipe. I momos the outer dough is made of maida/flour where in kozhukattai it will be rice flour. In the former we use veggie or non-veg stuffings whereas in kozhukattai we use sweet/savory stuffing and it is mostly used as festive recipe/snack/dessert.
