I love sarkarai pongal and i want to post in during pongal itself but unfortunately we were on a short vacation to yelagiri i couldn't prepare and post it.I was longing to eat sarkari pongal so yesterday i made poori for other and made this samai sarkari pongal for me(as i like sweet dishes more). Its such an easy recipe, try and eat healthy pongal.
Preparation time: under 10mins
cooking time: under 30mins
Serves-2
Ingredients:
- Little millet/Samai-1\2 cup
- Split moong dal-2 tbsp
- Water-2 to 3 cups
- Powdered Jaggery-1\3 cup
- Cardamon powder-1\4 tsp
- Ghee-2 tbsp
- milk- 3 tbsp(optional)
- Cashew nut-few
- salt a pinch
Method:
1.Wash dal and rice well. You can either pressure cook dal and rice with 2 n 1\2 cup water, milk(if adding) along with a pinch of salt for 2 whistle. But i used my earth ware to cook.
2.While its cooking, dissolve jaggery in 1\4 cup water and make just a syrup(no string consistency).
3.When the rice& dal is almost cooked filter the jaggery syrup and pour in to the rice .Add cardamon powder and wait for everything to mix well. When it becomes little thick switch off.
4.Heat ghee ,roast the cashew in it and pour over the pongal.
Serve hot or warm.
Heathly sarkarai pongal is ready.
In the same way you can make sarkari pongal in the same way using rice, wheat rava or any millet.
