Sweet potato Masiyal with coconut | Side dish for rice

As we all know sweet potato is cooked as eaten as evening snack.when i browse i saw it can be made to kootu .I tried it & it was nice,so I post it here.


1.Sweet potato-4
2.turmeric powder-1 tsp
3.mustard-1 tsp
4.curry leaves
5.salt to taste
6.oil- 2 tsp

To roast& grind:

1.coriander seeds-1tsp
2.coconut grated-4 tsp
3.Red chilli-2
4.jeera/cumin seeds-1\2 tsp
5.garlic pods-1
6.channa dal/kadalai paruppu- 1tsp


1.Dry roast all the ingredients under"roast&grind.Cool it and grind to powder.

2.Peel skin of sweet potato.

3.In a kadai, add oil,mustard seeds,curry leaves.Add cut sweet potatoes,mix.Then add turmeric powder,mix.

4.Add water to the mixture,close & cook.

5.When all the water is absorbed add the ground powder & mix.

6.Saute for 2 mins,ur kootu is ready.
