Sambar with freshly ground masala,no words to say ,it was such tasty and yummy .Try this easy sambar variety and enjoy with family.
Preparation time: under 30 mins
cooking time: under 20 mins
- Toor dal-1\2 cup
- Onion or shallot-1 or 12
- Hing powder-1 tsp
- Vegetables-1\2 cup(i used pumpkin,carrot and brinjal)(its ur choice)
- Tamarind -small berry sized
- Turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
- Salt to taste
To roast & grind:
- Red chilly-4
- Coriander seeds- 1 tsp
- Methi seeds-1\2 tsp
- channa dal-1 n 1\2 tsp
- Jeera-1\2 tsp
- Coconut-2 tsp
For seasoning:
- Oil-2 tsp
- Mustard-1 tsp
- Red chilly-1
- Curry leaves-few
Method:
1.Dry roast all the ingredients under " to roast & grind" in a pan.Cool it and powder it.Soak tamarind in water and extract juice and keep ready.
2.Wash the dal well .Add water,turmeric,onion and hing powder,pressure cook it till the dal is cooked well.Side by cook the vegetables also.When the pressure is released,open and add in the cooked vegetable,tamarind juice,salt and powdered masala.Mix and let it boil for 5-8 mins.
Heat oil in a kadai and temper with the ingredients under" for seasoning" and add it in to the sambar.
Flavourful sambar is ready to serve with idli/dosa or rice.
Note:
1.Add red chilly according to your spice level.
