I couldn't do the December month eggless challenge and i don't want to skip the January one.I made this yummy street food of Greece yesterday for tea time snack and we enjoyed it.This bread recipe was suggested by priya of priya's versatile recipe and thank priya for choosing it.Mostly it include egg,but for eggless version i replaced egg with curd/yogurt.
Preparation time:under 30 mins
Resting time: 1 to 2 hrs
Baking time: 25-30 mins
Makes : 5 simiti
Ingredients:
- Maida-1\2 cup
- wheat flour-1\2 cup
- instant yeast- 1 tsp
- Milk powder-2 tbsp
- curd/yogurt-1\4 cup
- sugar-3 tsp
- salt-1\2 tsp
- baking powder-1\2 tsp
- Olive oil-3 to 4 tbsp
- Warm water-as needed
For topping
- honey- 2 tbsp
- Water-4 tbsp
- white sesame seeds-3 tbsp
Method:
1.In a bowl add both flours,milk powder,yeast,sugar and salt.
2.Add curd/yogurt ,oil and mix well.If needed add warm water knead to slightly sticky dough.
3.Cover and wait for it to double.
4.Punch out air and make 5 balls of it.Take a ball and divide it in to two and roll the two in to a long rope.
5.Make braid with this two rope.
6.Bring the ends together to seal the braids well.
7. Dry roast the sesame/til seeds and keep ready.Mix water and honey in a bowl.Dip the braid rings in honey mix.
8.And place them on the roasted sesame seeds.
9.Place the ring on the baking tray.Do the same for all the braided rings. and bake it in a pre-heated oven at 180 deg C for 25-30 mins or till it is browned.
10.All baked.
Serve it with your favourite spread or as such.
note:
1.Baking time may vary from oven to oven.
2.If using dry yeast first proof it and then use.
