Falafel Recipe | Middle East street Food


Falafel is nothing but deep fried balls made with ground chick peas and spices which is one of the commonly eaten food in middle east.This is usually served in pita bread,which act as pocket or wrapped in flat bread.Falafel is topped with salads, hot sauce,pickled vegetables or tahini-based sauces.It tastes some what similar to our paruppu vada and make perfect pair with tea/coffee.
Preparation time: 15 mins
Soaking time: 6-8 hrs
Cooking time: under 30 mins
Serves: 2-3

Ingredients:

  • Chickpeas-1\3 cup
  • Chopped onion-1
  • Green chilly-1
  • garlic bulbs-6-8
  • ginger-1 cm piece
  • coriander leaves-3-4 strings
  • pepper-1 tsp
  • cumin powder-1 tsp
  • red chilly powder-1\2 tsp
  • cooking soda-1\4 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • oil- to deep fry


Method:

1.Soak chick peas over night.Next day drain the water and wash it well in water again.


2.Then add it to the blender and add everything except soda,salt and oil.Ground it to a coarse paste.(if an only needed lightly sprinkle water)


3.Add salt & cooking soda and mix well.Heat oil in a pan.Make small balls of the ground mix and slightly flatten it.Deep fry it in hot oil.Drain excess oil in kitchen tissue.


Serve  for tea/coffee.

We simple had it with ketchup.


Note:

1.If you have parsely then use it along with coriander leaves,since i didnot have i dn't use it.
