Kara chutney | Hotel style spicy chutney | Onion-tomato chutney


When it comes to side dish for idli/ dosa mostly I prefer easy sambar or coconut chutney or red chutney.But when the breakfast ,idli/dosa , is continous for next following days also I do this kara chutney or tomato chutney. This chutney takes hardly 5 mins to prepare and taste awesome with idli or dosa.With no further delay let's see how make make this yummiest kara chutney.

Ingredients:

  • Oil- 2 tsp 
  • urad dal- 1 tsp 
  • channa dal- 1 tsp
  • dry red chilly-4
  • garlic pods-3
  • onion-2 
  • tomato-2
  • salt to taste

To temper:

  • oil-1 tsp
  • mustard-1\2 tsp
  • urad dal-1\4 tsp
  • hing/asafoedita powder- 1\8 tsp
spicy chutney

 Method:

1.Heat 2 tsp oil in pan,Add in channa dal,urad dal and red chilly.Saute for some time till you get a nice aroma of roasted dal.Transfer it to a dry mixer.

2.In the same pan roast garlic and onion+tomato one after another and transfer to the same mixer.


3.Cool a bit and grind it to fine paste with salt.


4.Temper with ingredients listed under " to temper" and serve for dosa/ idli.

I served it for kambu/bajra millet dosa.
