This recipe is also i learnt from podhigai TV channel.I have started tyring all millet varieties in different ways and this vathal is an easy way to introduce millet in our diet as no one will say no to fried snacks.
Preparation time: 15mins
Cooking time: 15 mins
Drying time:2-4 days(depends on weather)
Ingredients:
- Foxtail millet/Thinnai Flour-1 cup
- powdered Sago/javarasi-1\4 cup (just powder the whole one in mixer)
- jeera-1\2 tsp
- salt to taste
To grind:
- mint leaves-1\2 bunch
- coriander leaves-1\2 bunch
- Green chilly-1 r 2
Method:
1.Grind all the ingredients under to grind to a fine paste with water.Extract juice from it and sieve the juice.Let this be around 4-5 cups.(add water to get it).
2.To it add the jeera,salt and both flour.Mix it well.It should be watery.
3.Heat it mix and cook it in low flame.It get thicken as cooked.Switch off when it becomes semi thick.
4.After it has cooled a bit fill it in murruku presser and press it on plastic sheets.Do the same for all dough.
5.Keep it in sunlight for 3-4 days to dry well.(mine got ready in just 2 days as it is very hot in chennai).
6.Store the vathal in container and fry them in oil when needed.
Healthy and tasty millet vathal is ready.
Note:
1.The dough may become thick thick after cooling so switch when its semi thick.
2.If it is hard to press sprinkle some hot water in dough,mix and then press.
3.If u don't have murukku presser just scoop ,spread and dry them.
Fried is absolutely yummy and easy as its one pot meal.Try Schezwan Fried rice from here,looks yummy.
