Aamras | Sweetened Mango Puree | Side Dish for Poori



Aamras is nothing but a mango puree flavored with cardamon and saffron.It is a Gujarati sweet dish.while browsing for this recipe I read as it is not alone served with Puri/poori but also as a dessert. Aam means mango and ras mean water, yes aamars is nothing but liquefied mango puree.water or milk is added to diluted it but here I did not add any liquid.

Happy Diwali <:-P to all my readers, have a fun filled and safe diwali.At last I tried my hands on traditional method of making halwa of Tirunelveli which is near to our home town. When ever we travel down south Tamilnadu we make sure to buy some halwa at Tirunelveli.I referred Raks kitchen to do it with some slight changes.I needed the sugar & ghee amount.The tricky parts are the caramelisation ,then the addition of water and continuous stirring.If we miss it the halwa may turn bitter.

This recipe is my in-laws side famous sweet.People who comes around the sea shore village in kanyakumari must have heard about this one which is quite popular over there and they make this usually during the last week of lent reason to eat it on good Friday.Last week when i ground a huge batch of rice flour i decided to make this and blog about it.Its very easy and "ulakkai " a bigger from of  mortar padestal is used for  binding the ingredients together but now since we can't find if we can use mixer/mixie too.Do give a try and let me know.
