Therachi fish kuzhambu with step by step pictures.

Therachi which is also known as Thirandai is a healthy fish that has medicinal values. In English, it is known as Stingray fish. We can make this fish in many ways like using coconut or without coconut, can roast spices, and make curry, or with coconut milk too we can make this curry. Each one makes it in their own way. Here we made by roasting the spices. Let us see how to make this.

Ingredients:

Therachi fish-1/2 kg

Oil-1 tbsp

Mustard-1/2 tsp

Fenugreek seeds-1/2 tsp.

onion-1. chopped

Ginger-inch piece, chopped

Garlic-2 tbsp, chopped

Tomato-1

Green chilly-1

Red chilly-2

curry leaves-few

Pepper powder-1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

Tamarind juice-1/3 cup( optional)


Masala to  dry roast:

Red chilli powder- 2 tsp

coriander powder-2 tsp

turmeric powder-1/2 tsp

Fennel seeds/powder-1/2tsp


Method:

1. Dry roast all the spices given under " to dry roast".Be careful not to burn it. Clean the fish well in water.


2. Heat oil in a Kadai.Pop-out mustard and fenugreek. Add onion, ginger, garlic, green chilli, curry leaves, red chilly and saute well.


3. When the onion becomes translucent add the roasted spices, water and cook. then add the cleaned fish. Toss it well in the masala.


4. Add required water or tamarind water, tomato, salt and allow it to boil. These fish get cooked soon. In just  10-15 mins it will be done.


Switch off. Serve for hot steaming rice.
