Vada Curry | Steamed Low Fat Version | Side for Idli /Dosa

Vada curry

I have not made vada curry at home not even tasted @ restaurant but seeing about it many sites even in priya's who has two recipes(version) of it thought why not try.I was confused whether kids will like it but to my surprise they too loved it.Thanks priya for the wonderful recipe.

Ingredients:

To Grind:

  • Channa dal-1 cup(soaked)
  • Red chilly-2
  • Fennel seeds-1\2 tsp
  • Salt
Other ingredients:

  • Oil-2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon-small piece
  • Cloves,cardamon,bay leaf-2,each
  • Onion-1  big,chopped
  • Tomato-1
  • Ginger garlic paste-1 tsp
  • Red chilly powder-1 tsp
  • coriander powder- 1n 1\2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Mint and coriander leaves



Method:

1.Soak dal in water for 2 hrs.Then drain and grind to a coarse paste with all other items in " to grind".Make small balls of it and steam them in the idli cooker/steamer.



2.Heat oil in a pan add in all whole pieces ,then add chopped onion and fry till it becomes translucent then add ginger garlic paste cook till raw smell goes.

3.Add in chopped tomato cook till mushy followed by all dry powder mix well.Add  a cup of water and wait to boil.Meantime break the steamed vada in to small pieces.check for salt.

4.When it starts to  boil add the vada pieces and wait to blends well.add in mint/coriander leaves.




Serve for idli or dosai.We had it for millet dosai.




Note:

1.You can also fry the vada and make it.
2.Can also be made with left over vadas.
