Sugarcane juice Pongal | Karumbu charu Pongal



Sugarcane juice Pongal with step by step pictures and video

 Happy Pongal to all.

This is a regular Pongal in which sugar cane juice is added for sweetness instead of jaggery. It tastes so good when it is warm. Now is the time to make this as you will have leftover sugarcane from the festival. As I got just a cup of juice it was not able to give the sweetness, hence I added some rock candy.

Ingredients:

Raw rice- 1/4 cup
Moong dal-1 tbsp
Sugar cane juice-1 cup
Rock candy-1/4 cup
Cardamom powder-1/2 tsp
Cashew nuts & raisins- few
Ghee- 1 tbsp


Method:



1. Chop sugarcane into small pieces. Add water and blend well. Sieve through a strainer to collect the juice.


2. Take rice and dal in a pan. Clean it well in water.


3. Add water and cook it.

4. When the rice has cooked well add sugar can juice Test for sweetness. Add rock candy if needed and switch off when it gets thicken. add cardamom powder.




5. Roast cashew& raisins in ghee and add to it.

Serve hot or warm.
