Beetroot Cutlet | Beetroot Tikki | Healthy Cutlet

Beetroot also knows as beets is a super healthy food which can be used as raw or cooked.With the wide range of health benefits in it has proved,  it lowers blood pressure. These have a unique source of betaine which is a nutrient that protects cells.This can be eaten either as simple salads marinated with lemon juice,herbs, and olive oil or cooked or one can even use it in baking to make cakes/cupcakes.


We normally use potatoes to make cutlet/tikka but here in this recipe I have added grated beetroot along with it and hence we get a nice colour to it.

Preparation time: 10 mins
cooking time: under 30 mins

Ingredients:
  • beet root-1
  • potato-2 (medium sized)
  • onion-1
  • ginger garlic paste-1\2 tsp
  • green chilly-1 ,chopped
  • Pepper powder-1\2 tsp
  • Chat or garam masala-1 tsp
  • rava or bread crumbs- to coat
  • maida-1 tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • oil- to fry

Method:

1.Peel the skin of beetroot and grate it finely.Cook the potatoes and peel the skin.

2.In a mixing bowl add grated beetroot,potato,onion,ginger garlic paste,green chilly,pepper powder,garam masala or chat powder and salt.Mix it well without adding any water.


3.Mix 1 tbsp of flour/maida in some water and keep ready.Make lemon sized ball of the prepared mix and flatten it in your pan.Dip it in the flour mix and roll over breadcrumbs or rava.Prepare the same for all.

4.Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry all the patties.When done on one side flip and cook the other side.

Serve hot as snack  with some ketchup or as such for tea/coffee.

Notes:

1.While mixing if it becomes very loose add some rice flour or soaked rice flakes and make a non-sticky batter.

2.You can also deep fry these patties but I always prefer shallow frying.

3.Since  I was short of bread crumbs I used rava / sooji but  you  can also use bread crumbs
