How to cook Quinoa with step by step pictures.Quinoa is one of the world's best healthy food.It is gluten-free, high in protein and one of the few plant foods that contain all nine essential amino acids.It is also high in fiber, magnesium, B-vitamins, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin E and various beneficial antioxidants.
Quinoa is a flowering plant in the amaranth family. It is a herbaceous annual plant grown as a grain crop primarily for its edible seeds. Because it is not a grass, it is a pseudocereal rather than a true cereal. (Wikipedia).
After harvest, the seeds are processed to remove the outer coating that contains bitter-tasting saponins. They are gluten-free. Generally, the seeds are cooked the same way as rice and can be used in a wide range of dishes.

Lets us see how to cook this super food.Here I have used the stove top method but you can also cook it in cooker/rice cooker. The ratio of quinoa and water is 1:2.
Ingredients:
- Quinoa-1\2 cup
- Water-1 cup
- Salt-as needed(optional) (see notes)
Method:
1.Take quinoa in a fine stainer.Keep it under running water and clean the grain well.Since it is small we cannot wash as rice hence using strainer.Wash well to remove the outer husk if any.
2.Boil 1 cup water in a pan.when it boils add the cleaned grain and salt if using.
3.Close it with lid and cook.It about 10-12 minutes it will be done.
4.Open and fluff it up with fork.Use it in various dishes.
Notes:
1.If using for sweet dishes you can avoid salt while cooking.
