Tomato dosa with step by step pictures.
Thakalai dosai alias tomato dosa is almost an instant version of dosai/crepes which does not require any fermentation like a regular one.Just the soaking time is needed for this which then after soaked just grind it and makes it.This goes well with all chutney and sambar.Even the kids get attracted by its red color of it. Since this recipe doesn't need any fermentation time except the soaking& grinding time one can make this dosa quickly. If you are planning to make for dinner just soak it now and grind after 2 hours and your batter will be ready.Soaking time: 2-3 hours

Makes: around 8 dosa
Ingredients:
- Raw rice: 1 & 1\4 cup
- tomato-2
- Red chilly powder- 1 tsp
- jeera/cumin powder-1\2 tsp
- salt to taste
- oil- to make dosa( as needed)
To temper:
- oil-2 tsp
- mustard- 1 tsp
- urad dal-1\2 tsp
- curry leaves-a spring
Method:
1.Clean and soak rice for 2-3 hours.Then grind it first coarsely, then add chopped tomato and grind to a fine paste in a mixer.Transfer it to a bowl.
2.Add in red chilly powder, jeera powder and salt.Mix well.Heat a tadka pan with oil and add in all items listed under " to temper" and add the tadka to the batter.Give a quick mix.
3.Heat the dosa pan, pour a ladle of the prepared batter and spread it out.Drizzle oil on sides of it.When cooked on one side flip and cook the other side.
Serve hot with your favourite chutney or sambar or both.
