Puran poli | Sweet Boli | Indian Sweet

Festivals is incomplete with sweets and i can see co-bloggers posting many festive recipes as festivals are fast approaching. So i too decided to post my puran boli recipe pending in my draft as this is the right time.Boli/poli is usually made with maida/flour but here i have used more of wheat flour and little maida to make it little healthy. This is my own version and i didn't stick to any prescribed  or authentic way.

Preparation time: under 15 mins
cooking time: 30 mins
Makes 8-10 (depends )

Ingredients:

outer covering:

  • wheat flour-3\4 cup
  • maida-1\4 cup
  • turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
  • salt-1\2 tsp
  • oil-2 tbsp

For filling:

  • channa dal-1\2 cup
  • jaggery-1\3 to 1\2 cup
  • cardamon powder-1\2 tsp
  • grated coconut-1\3 cup
  • ghee-as needed.

Method:

1.In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients for the outer covering mix well first. Then slowly add water and make a non sticky dough.Make small balls of it ,cover and keep it aside.

2.Cook channa dal with 2-3 cup of water and little salt(optional). You can even pressure cook it.Don't over cook it.Drain water and mash it well.

3.Heat ghee in a pan ,add the mashed dal, crushed jaggery, grated coconut and cardamon powder.Keep in low flame and stir continously till all water evaporates and it becomes dry. Then switch off. When cooled a bit makes balls of it.

4.Roll a dough ball and place a sweet filling ball inside and close it.then gently flatten it.

5.Heat a tawa and cook the prepared boli with ghee drizzled on it .When done on one side flip and cook the other side.Do the same for all other balls too.

Tasty poli / boli is ready to munch on.

Enjoy <:-P

Note:

1.This is my own method.
2.You can make the dough wholly with maida and avoid wheat flour.
3.Roll the dough balls very thin.
