Karadaiyan nombu adai with step by step pictures.
Even since I started blogging and whenever I see co-bloggers post recipe regarding any particular festival I'm will be so much tempted by it. All though we don't celebrate nombu means fasting I wish to try to justify my role as a food blogger. This recipe happened to be the same one which I longed to try for many years and tried it yesterday for our evening snack.
This adai is nothing but a steamed rice cake. It will savory or sweet depending on the added ingredients. Lets us see how to make this.

Ingredients:
For the savory version:
Idiyappam flour-1/2 cup
Cooked black eye cowpeas-1/4 cup
Water-1 cup
Oi-1 tsp
Mustard-1/4 tsp
Hing-1/4 tsp
Ginger chopped-1/4 tsp
Green chilli-1
Salt to taste.
For Sweet Adai:
Rice flour-1/2 cup
Grated jaggery-1.2 cup
Water-1 cup
coconut pieces-2 tbsp
cardamom powder-1/8 tsp
Ghee-1 tsp
cowpeas,cooked-1/4 cup
Instructions:
1. Heat oil in a pan, pop out mustard followed by hing,ginger, chili. Then add 1 cup water, cooked cow peas, and salt. When water boil slowly add rice flour and mix without any lumps.
3. Steam till done.
Sweet adai.
1. Heat water with grated jaggery, cooked cowpeas, coconut, ghee, and cardamom powder. When it boil add rice flour and mix well without lumps. till it forms a mass together. Cool it.
2. Shape in the form of an adai and steam it.
Healthy and tasty sweet and savory adai are ready for snacking.
