Fish Masala | Fried Fish in Fried Masala | Fish Recipe

Fish Masala is nothing but where the fish is first slightly fried then a thick masala from fried spices is made in which the fried fish is added to absorb the flavors.For the first time We tried it in December and it was a super it and since then we had made it thrice.For this recipe I searched google and gathered ideas to make it.Actually the thought to make this would not have happened if my father had not asked,yes it my dad who asked for the masala and we (together with my husband) searched and prepared it.The ingredients may look bit lengthy but all things are sure in your pantry.When  you get some good fleshy fish do try to make this once and I assure you will make it again and again.

Ingredients:

Table 1:
  • Fish pieces-5 r 6
  • turmeric powder-1\4 tsp
  • pepper powder-1\4 tsp
  • salt-1\2 tsp
  • oil-2 tsp
Table 2:
  • Onion-1 big
  • tomato-1 big
  • Red chilly powder- 1 n 1\2 tsp
  • coriander powder-2 tsp
  • turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
  • jeera powder-1\2 tsp( can also use whole pepper)
  • pepper powder-1\2 tsp(can use whole jeera also)
Other ingredients:
  • Oil-1 tbsp
  • mustard seeds-1 tsp
  • methi/fenugreek seeds-1\2 tsp
  • onion-1,chopped
  • chopped ginger-2 tsp
  • chopped garlic-2 tsp
  • green chilly-2,slited
  • curry leaves-few
  • Tamarind-very small berry size 
  • Salt -to taste
  • coconut oil-2 tsp ( lastly to drizzle on top)

Method:

1.Clean the fish well,add turmeric powder,pepper powder,salt and marinate for  15 minutes.Then fry it till it is just fried ( pls don't fry it fully ,just half fried is more than enough).Extract tamarind juice(around half cup).


2.In a tsp of oil fry onion and tomato for few minutes then transfer it to a plate.Dry roast all the powder one by one for just a few seconds (be careful not to burn the masala powders).Cool a bit.


3.First grind the tomato-onion mix to a paste,then add the roasted dry powders to a clean mixer and grind it to a paste with few tsp of water.

4.Heat oil in a kadai,add in mustard and methi seeds,followed by chopped onion,gren chilly and curry leaves.Saute for a while.Then add the ground onion-tomato paste ,saute.Then add the ground masala powder paste.Add the tamarind juice ,check for salt and spices.Wait for it boil a little.


5.When it starts to boil add the half fried fish pieces and gently coat it with the masala.Cover with lid and wait for few minutes till it thicken a bit else oil ooze out on top.Lastly add coconut oil on top and switch off.

Serve for hot steamed rice.
 It would be so yummy you will eat more. :P


Notes:

1.You can also make the whole process in coconut oil,in that case avoid adding it on top at the end.

2.Adjust spices according to your tolerant level.
