Elephant Yam/Senai Kilangu Thoran | Side dish for rice




Elephant yam thoran with step by step pictures and video.

This side dish is one of my favourite and i make it often.My little brother love yam very much and if made like this he loves it.You can make raw banana in the same way. A simple rasam along with thoran for hot steamed rice makes the best combo. Do give a try once.

Ingredients:

1.Yam- 1\4 kg
2.Coconut grated- 4 to 5 tbsp
3.Red chilli-3 (acc. to ur spice level)
4.Garlic pods-5
5.Jeera/cumin seeds- 2 tsp
6.turmeric powder- 1\2 tsp
7.salt to taste

To temper:

Oil
Mustard
Curry leaves

Method:



 

1 .Remove skin,clean &Cut yam into small pieces(small cubes will be good).

2.Cook with water,it should not become ma shy but must be cooked.



3.Drain the water & keep aside.

4.Mean while grind coconut with jeera,chilli,garlic & turmeric powder to a coarse.




5.Heat oil in a kadai,add all under " to temper" ,then add ground masala,followed by cooked yam& salt.



6.Just sprinkle little water,and the dish will be done in a minute.



Serve with rice.
