Fried Modak | Festive Recipe

As the name says this is a deep fried recipe.The filling can be anything either sweet or savory.Here I used a sweet filling with grated coconut and jaggery. I made this yesterday's after-school snacks for my kids.The whole process takes about 30 mins only.Do give a try for the festive and relish with your family.


Preparation time: 5mins
Cooking time: under 30mins
Makes 5 modak

Ingredients:

  • Wheat flour- 1\2 cup
  • Salt - 1\2 tsp
  • Jaggery -1\3 cup
  • Grated coconut -1\2 cup
  • Cardamom powder -1\2 tsp
  • Oil 1 tsp + to deep fry

Method:

1.In a mixing bowl add flour, salt and a tsp of oil.Mix well.Add water and make a soft pilable dough.Cover and keep aside for some time.


2.Add jaggery and 1\2 cup water to a boil and just boil for the jaggery to dissolve.Switch off and keep aside.

3.In a non stick pan roast grated coconut for a while.Then the filter the jagery syrup and add to it.Keep sauting till coconut and jaggery blends up together.Switch off.

4.Make balls out of the kneaded dough.Roll in and place  a ball of stuffing and close it to look like a potli(bag).Do the same for all.

5.Heat oil and deep from it till golden brown.
