Red Rice Idli | Healthy South Indian Breakfast

Idli is one breakfast which is quite common in many south Indian houses.Though it is easy to make it is very healthy since it is steamed and it can be given to a sick person or babies.

I have some idli collection on my blog like instant oats idli, ragi idlipearl millet idli, kodo millet idli, instant idli, ragi rava idli, rava idli, etc.To add to this collection here is another one variety which is made with red rice.Actually, when I bought a pack of red rice first I tried red rice appam then this idli.Both came out well.


Preparation time:5 mins
Soaking time 2 hours
Fermentation time: 8 hours to overnight
Cooking time: 10 minutes for a batch

Ingredients:
  • Red rice-1 cup
  • Idli rice-1 cup
  • Urad dal-1\2 cup
  • Methi seeds-1\4 tsp
  • Salt

Method:

1.Soak both rice together.Dal & methi seeds together for two hours.

2.First grind dal, methi seeds to a fine paste with little water and transfer to a vessel.

3.Then grind rice to a fine paste and transfer the batter to the same vessel.

4.Add salt and mix the batter well.Keep it covered overnight for it to ferment well.

5.Mix the fermented batter well.Grease idli pan and pour a ladle of batter into each hole of idli plate and steam it.Repeat the same.

Serve hot idli with your favorite chutney or sambar.
