Vendakai/Orka Puli Kuzhambu | Lady's finger in spicy tangy sauce | Gravy for rice

vendakai puli kuzhambu

Okra/Vendakai/Lady's finger cooked in tangy spicy sauce is absolutely tasty and will be great with some pappad and hot steamed rice.Try it.




Preparation time: 10 mins
cooking time-20 mins
Serves-3

Ingredients:

  • Okra/lady's finger-1\4 kg
  • Onion.chopped-1 big
  • garlic-2(optional)
  • Tamarind-small lemon size
  • Red chilly powder-2 tsp
  • coriander powder-1 &1\2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder-1\2 tsp
  • salt to taste

To temper:

  • Oil-1 tbsp
  • Mustard-1\2 tsp
  • methi seeds-1\4 tsp
  • curry leaves-few




Method:

1.Wash  the okra.trim  head and tail of till and cut in to medium sized chunks.Soak tamarind in water and extract juice of it and keep.

2.Heat oil in kadai,pop out mustard & methi seeds  then add chopped onions,garlic(if needed) and curry leaves and saute for a while.Then add the okra pieces and saute for a while.




3.then add all the spice powders with salt and tamarind juice and cook  till everything blends well.

4.then add water and bring to boil and cook till it becomes little thick.



Spicy tangy kuzhambu is ready.
